How to enable two-factor authentication (2FA) in cPanel
Two-factor authentication adds an extra layer of protection by requiring you to enter a unique code beside your regular password when you login. This code is generated by an app on your smartphones and changes each after 60 seconds. No one will login without both your password and access to your smartphone to come up with the code making it very effective at keeping out intruders.
Enabling 2FA
1. If you don’t have already got an authentication app installed on your smartphone or tablet you’ll required to download one. He suggest either Google authenticator or Microsoft authenticator , each are offered for complimentary from the Google Android and Apple IOS app stores but any app that supports the OTP authentication normal can work.
2. Log into cPanel
3. Scroll down to Security
4. Click for the Two-Factor Authentication
5. Click Set Up Two-Factor Authentication
6. Open your authentication app and scan the onscreen QR code or enter the key code into your app.
7. Enter the 6-digit security code generated by your app into the box titled Security Code
8. Click Configure Two-Factor Authentication
2FA is now organized, next time you login you’ll be asked to enter a code generated by your app.
Disabling 2FA
If you need to setup 2FA again, for example if you have a new device, you can do as follows:
1. Log into cPanel
2. Scroll down to Security
3. Click Two-Factor Authentication
4. Click Reconfigure two-factor authentication
What if my device is lost or stolen?
If your device along with your 2FA app is lost or stolen please contact our support team, after going through security they’re going to be able to reset your 2FA for you.
