{"id":532,"date":"2021-07-05T09:53:54","date_gmt":"2021-07-05T09:53:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ownwebservers.com\/kb\/?p=532"},"modified":"2021-07-05T10:31:28","modified_gmt":"2021-07-05T10:31:28","slug":"how-to-use-patchman-with-vps-dedicated-servers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ownwebservers.com\/kb\/how-to-use-patchman-with-vps-dedicated-servers\/","title":{"rendered":"How to Use Patchman with VPS &#038; Dedicated Servers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This tutorial concern to Patchman when used with our <strong>VPS, cloud server or dedicated server platforms<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>How Patchman Works<\/h3>\n<p>Patchman is an automatic vulnerability detection and patching tool designed for favored CMS system:, WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, Magento, WooCommerce and PrestaShop<\/p>\n<p>Patchman is installed as an agent on your server that scans your web sites and reports any vulnerabilities back to the Patchman portal. Your end cPanel or Plesk users will login to the portal and simply apply remediation like patching their application. If your users take no action Patchman can mechanically apply patches (policy dependent).<\/p>\n<h2>Patchman Policies<\/h2>\n<p>Patchman policies are what determines the actions taken by Patchman when a vulnerability is detected. Policies are\u00a0<strong>not<\/strong>\u00a0editable however we have several policies that can be requested by contacting our support team.<\/p>\n<p>By default, the following policy is applied, it is recommended you communicate the policy settings to your end users.<\/p>\n<h4>Vulnerability Detection<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Detection (Immediate):<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0On detection of a vulnerability Patchman will immediately notify the end user.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Reminder (5 Days):<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0If after 5 days the user has not resolved the vulnerability (usually by upgrading their application) a further reminder will be sent.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Patch (10 Days):<\/strong>\u00a0If after 10 days the vulnerability is still not resolved Patchman will automatically patch the affected file(s).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"background-color: #7bdcb5; padding: 1.25em 2.375em; color: black;\"><strong>Important:<\/strong>\u00a0Patchman does not update user applications but instead patches specific security vulnerabilities by backporting patches from newer versions. It is always preferable for your users to upgrade their application where possible.<\/p>\n<p style=\"background-color: #fcb900; padding: 1.25em 2.375em; color: black;\"><strong>Note:<\/strong>\u00a0If you don\u2019t want Patchman to automatically patch a vulnerability you can select the file(s) and from the\u00a0<strong>Bulk actions<\/strong>\u00a0menu select\u00a0<strong>Block<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h4>Malware Detection<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Quarantine (Immediate):<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0On detection of malware Patchman will immediately quarantine the malware files and notify the end user.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Deletion (5 Days):\u00a0<\/strong>After 5 days Patchman will delete the quarantined files.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Advanced Malware Detection (Patchman Clean only)<\/h4>\n<ul id=\"block-5ebd9430-a80d-40d0-b9f2-fbe3df6415ca\">\n<li><strong>Detection (Immediate):<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0On detection of a vulnerability Patchman will immediately notify the end user.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Reminder (5 Days):<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0If after 5 days the user has not resolved the vulnerability (usually by upgrading your application) a further reminder will be sent.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Patch (10 Days):<\/strong>\u00a0If after 10 days the vulnerability is still not resolved Patchman will clean the infected file(s).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Outdated Applications<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Detection (Immediate):\u00a0<\/strong>On detection of an outdated application Patchman will immediately notify the end user.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Reminder (5 Days):<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0If after 5 days the user has not updated their application a further reminder will be sent.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Accessing Patchman<\/h2>\n<p>Your cPanel or Plesk users can also access Patchman through their control panel. There are 2 level of accessing patchman: 1.) <strong>Reseller<\/strong> and\u00a0 2.) <strong>End user.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Resellers can view all their sub accounts through the Patchman portal and perform remediation on any of them, Whereas end user can only see their own account.<\/p>\n<p style=\"background-color: #fcb900; padding: 1.25em 2.375em; color: black;\"><strong>Note:<\/strong>\u00a0Only End users receive notifications, if you would like your resellers to also receive notification for their sub accounts, please contact support.<\/p>\n<h3>Logging in as a Plesk User<\/h3>\n<ol type=\"1\">\n<li>Log into\u00a0<strong>Plesk<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Click\u00a0<strong>Domains<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Select the domain you want to access<\/li>\n<li>Click\u00a0<strong>Patchman<\/strong>\u00a0from the side menu<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-540\" src=\"https:\/\/ownwebservers.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/patch-1.png\" alt=\"patch-1\" width=\"251\" height=\"297\" \/><\/p>\n<p>5.) To access this, click on\u00a0<strong>Applications<\/strong>\u00a0<em>(Patchman &gt; Applications icon)<\/em>\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-547\" style=\"vertical-align: middle;\" src=\"https:\/\/ownwebservers.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/apps-1.png\" alt=\"apps-1\" width=\"114\" height=\"32\" \/><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Perform scan:<\/strong>\u00a0You can run a scan manually by clicking on\u00a0<strong>Perform Scan<\/strong>\u00a0<em>(Patchman -&gt; Perform Scan icon)<\/em>.\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-548\" style=\"vertical-align: middle;\" src=\"https:\/\/ownwebservers.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/scan-1.png\" alt=\"scan-1\" width=\"125\" height=\"42\" \/> Patchman will run a scan of your account.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Detected items actions:<\/strong>\u00a0All the detected vulnerabilities appear in a list containing the detection date, status, description as well as the vulnerability path. There is an\u00a0<strong>Actions<\/strong>\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-549 alignnone\" style=\"vertical-align: middle;\" src=\"https:\/\/ownwebservers.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/actions-1.png\" alt=\"actions-1\" width=\"114\" height=\"32\" \/> icon that you can click for every vulnerability. Click this to see the available actions and to carry them out.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 id=\"user-actions\">User Actions<\/h3>\n<p>Using the <strong>Bulk actions<\/strong> menu\u00a0 you can perform one or more of the following actions against the detected file or a group of files, whenever a vulnerability or malware is detected.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-554\" src=\"https:\/\/ownwebservers.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/patchman-action-1-300x93.png\" alt=\"patchman-action-1\" width=\"976\" height=\"302\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ownwebservers.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/patchman-action-1-300x93.png 300w, https:\/\/ownwebservers.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/patchman-action-1-768x238.png 768w, https:\/\/ownwebservers.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/patchman-action-1.png 976w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 976px) 100vw, 976px\" \/><\/p>\n<article id=\"post-10079\" class=\"post-10079 post type-post status-publish format-standard hentry category-patchman tag-malware-protection tag-patchman tag-wordpress ast-article-single\">\n<div class=\"ast-post-format- ast-no-thumb single-layout-1\">\n<div class=\"entry-content clear\">\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Block:<\/strong>\u00a0Blocks all automatic tasks (useful if you do not want a file(s) to be automatically patched)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Unblock:<\/strong>\u00a0Resumes automatic tasks that have previously been blocked.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Patch \/ Quarantine \/ Clean:<\/strong>\u00a0Context dependent, if a vulnerability it will path the fil, if malware quarantine it and if an infected file cleans it.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Reverse:<\/strong>\u00a0Reverses a patch, quarantine or clean action thus restoring the file back to how it originally was.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If an unforeseen event occurs, for example, if a patch affects your website\u2019s functionality, you can click on\u00a0<strong>Undo patch<\/strong>\u00a0within the Actions (or\u00a0<strong>Reverse<\/strong>\u00a0under Bulk actions). This helps undo the patch until you find out its root cause.
