An FTP client helps to create and edit files for your web site. Creating and editing files via FTP is simpler method as compared to using the command line. Any FTP client may be used as per your preference, however during this article we are reaching to use the FTP client \u2018Filezilla\u2019.<\/p>\n

Steps to Create a File<\/h3>\n

Follow the below steps to log into your server and create a file.<\/p>\n

1. Log into your server with the help of an FTP client.<\/p>\n

2. Check if your client has the permission to show hidden files.<\/p>\n

3. Ensure that you have logged in the correct directory for creating the file. You will see the directory in the right pane titled\u00a0\u201cRemote site\u201d<\/strong>. In this example, the directory is\u00a0\/home\/example_username\/example.com<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

4. Right click and select\u00a0\u2018Create new file\u2019<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

5. You will prompted to enter the name of the file. In this example, you will find a file named\u00a0.htaccess<\/strong>. Click the\u00a0OK<\/strong>\u00a0button to save.<\/p>\n

Steps to Edit a File<\/h3>\n

Check the below steps to edit an existing file:<\/p>\n

1. Log into your server using an FTP client.<\/p>\n

2. Ensure that you\u2019re in the correct directory to create the file. The directory is located in the right pane in a field titled\u00a0\u201cRemote site\u201d<\/strong>. In this example, the directory is\u00a0\/home\/example_username\/example.com<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

3. Right click on the file and select on\u00a0\u2018View\/Edit\u2019<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

4. You will be prompted for choosing a text editor. You can select a specific editor that is already installed, but using the default editor for\u00a0Windows<\/strong>\u00a0which is\u00a0Notepad<\/strong>\u00a0is the easiest option.<\/p>\n

5. Notepad will open the file. Add any text essential to the file.<\/p>\n
